What is Tadapox?
Tadapox (Tadalafil & Dapoxetine) is a medication indicated to treat erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation in men. Erectile dysfunction may be a concern if an erection cannot be an induced for sexual intercourse. During sexual intercourse, premature ejaculation may be a problem for reasons of decreased enjoyment. Tadapox is a combination of two drugs under their chemical or generic names, tadalafil and dapoxetine. Tadalafil is classified as a phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitor and dapoxetine is a short acting selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI).
How does Tadapox work?
Because tadapox is a combination drug, it works by combining two different functions for a comprehensive effect. The tadalafil component works by inhibiting a certain enzyme called phosphodiesterase. This inhibition leads to an increase in a molecule called cGMP which ultimately increases blood flow to the penis. The dapoxetine component works by decreasing the reuptake of serotonin and thus, prolonging and improving its function in the brain. Because serotonin balance plays a role in sexual response, dapoxetine increases sexual desire and results in delayed ejaculation.
How do I take Tadapox?
Tadapox is formulated as an 80 mg oral tablet (20 mg of tadalafil and 60 mg of dapoxetine). It is recommended to be taken 45 minutes to an hour before sexual activity. It should not be taken more than once a day. Tadapox tablets should not be crushed, chewed, or split.
Tadapox may cause some side effects such as headache, nausea, and dizziness. Because Tadapox contains tadalafil, it may also cause flushing, indigestion, myalgia (muscle pain), back pain, and stuffy nose. Other side effects can include priapism (an erection that does not go away) and rarely, vision or hearing loss. Side effects from the dapoxetine can include dry mouth, diarrhea, and insomnia.
This medication should not be taken with nitrates, alpha blockers, antihypertensives, and alcohol due to increased risk of hypotension, or abnormally low blood pressure. CYP3A4 inhibitors and inducers such as ketoconazole and rifampin, respectively, should not be taken with Tadapox due to changes in blood concentrations.
Can I use Tadapox if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
Tadapox has not been studied in women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Therefore, it is not indicated for use in these populations.
The dose of this medication may need to be altered in liver and kidney impairment. Tadapox is not recommended in severe liver impairment due to increased risk of adverse reactions. Dosing and timing should be adjusted in renal impairment especially in older individuals.
Individuals with heart failure among other cardiovascular problems should be advised not to take Tadapox. The risk of a cardiovascular event may be increased with use of this medication.
Seek medical help in cases of priapism or sudden hearing and vision loss.
Tadapox does not offer any protection against sexually transmitted diseases. It is important to take all necessary measures to protect against sexually transmitted diseases, including Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).
This medication should be kept in a cool dry place.
Keep out of the reach of children.
