What is this drug?
Indinavir is used in combination with other medicines to treat HIV infection. It reduces the viral load in the blood thereby giving a chance to the immune system to work and heal better. Indinavir reduces the risk of complications associated with HIV like TB, other infections etc. It is also available in the market as Crixivan.
Classification and Mechanism of Action
Generic Indinavir sulfate is an anti-viral belonging to the class of protease inhibitors. It binds to the site of protease enzyme in the viral cell and inhibits its action which prevents the cleavage of the proteins resulting in an immature and non-infectious viral cell.

Store it in a cool and dry place away from the reach of children. Do not use it in any other condition.
How to take Generic Indinavir?
Take it orally on an empty stomach.
Usual adult dosage is 800mg every 8 hourly. However, kindly consult your doctor for the correct dose and schedule.
Consult your doctor right away.
If you have missed Indinavir dose by more than 2 hours then skip that dose and go on to regular dosing from the next dose onwards.
Warnings and Precautions
Discuss with your doctor about other concurrent medications as Indinavir reacts with many medications. Inform your doctor of your other health conditions before starting Indinavir. Avoid getting pregnant.
