Clotrimazole: Uses, Benefits, Dosage, and Side Effects
Clotrimazole contains the active ingredient clotrimazole, which belongs to a class of medicines known as imidazole antifungal agents. It is widely used to treat and prevent fungal and yeast infections by stopping the growth of fungi and eliminating the infection at its source.
Clotrimazole is commonly prescribed for vaginal fungal infections, particularly vaginal candidiasis caused by Candida. While Candida normally exists in the vagina without causing symptoms, an overgrowth can lead to infection.
Common Symptoms of Vaginal Candidiasis
Vaginal and vulvar itching
Redness and swelling of the vagina or labia
Vaginal discomfort or pain
Thick, white vaginal discharge without an odor
