What is Cabgolin 0.5 Mg?
Cabgolin is prescribed to treat disorders associated with abnormal levels of the hormone prolactin. It may occur due to pituitary gland malfunction or a tumor. It is also prescribed to manage abnormal milk production due to higher levels of prolactin in the blood.
Class and Mechanism of Action
Cabgolin contains Cabergoline which is a dopamine receptor agonist. The secretion of prolactin by the pituitary gland is controlled by the hypothalamus through the action of dopamine. Cabgolin is an agonist of dopamine receptors and by binding to them it directly exerts an inhibitory action on the secretion of prolactin and reduces milk production.
