What Is Losartan?

Losartan is an oral medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).
It belongs to a different class of blood pressure medications than many of the more common options.

• Helps slow the progression of kidney disease in patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes

• Is often included in combination blood pressure therapies

How Losartan Works

Losartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB).
It works by:

• Blocking the effects of angiotensin II — a hormone that tightens blood vessels

• Relaxing and widening the blood vessels

• Reducing blood pressure

• Lowering the risk of cardiovascular complications

This makes it an effective choice for many patients with hypertension.

How to Store It

• Keep in a dry, dark place at room temperature

• Store out of reach of children

• Replace expired tablets with a new supply

How to Take Losartan

• Take Losartan exactly as prescribed

• You may take it with or without food

• If you experience vomiting or prolonged diarrhea, contact your doctor—this may affect potassium and fluid balance
