This medicine contains the active ingredient dexketoprofen which is also called a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), or just 'anti-inflammatory'. NSAIDs are used to ease pain, stiffness and inflammation of conditions that affect muscles, bones and joints. Dexketoprofen, as well as other NSAIDs, eases pain and inflammation by blocking the production of chemicals called ‘prostaglandins’, which are produced at sites of injury or damage. This medicine is used for short term symptomatic treatment of mild to moderate acute pain, such as acute muscular pain or joint pain, painful periods (dysmenorrhea), toothache.

Is Dexketoprofen suitable for me?

Dexketoprofen is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

  • if you are allergic to dexketoprofen, other NSAIDs or other ingredients of this medicine
  • if you have suffered from photoallergic or phototoxic reactions (a particular form of reddening and/or blistering of the skin exposed to sunlight) while taking ketoprofen (a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) or fibrates (drugs used to lower the level of fats in the blood)
  • if you have asthma or have suffered attacks of asthma, acute allergic rhinitis, nasal polyps, urticaria (skin rash), angioedema or wheezing after taking aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines
  • if you have ever had a peptic ulcer or bleeding in your gut
  • if you have any gut disorders
  • if you have chronic digestive problems 
  • if you have Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis
  • if you have severe heart problems
  • if you have severe liver or kidney problems
  • if you bruise more easily than usual and have bleeding that lasts a long time
  • if you have a bleeding disorder or a blood clotting disorder
  • if you are severely dehydrated (have lost a lot of body fluids) due to vomiting, diarrhea or insufficient intake of fluids
  • if you are pregnant or breastfeeding

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

  • are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • have ever had any disease of the stomach or intestine
  • have asthma or any allergic disease 
  • suffer from asthma combined with chronic rhinitis, chronic sinusitis, and/or nasal polyposis
  • have heart, kidney or liver problems
  • have excessive fluid loss, salt restriction or heart failure 
  • have blood clotting disorder
  • have high blood pressure,
  • have diabetes
  • are elderly
  • are a woman with fertility problems
  • have a condition porphyria 
  • suffer from any stomach or bowel disorders (ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease)
  • have varicella (chickenpox)
  • have a connective-tissue disorder, such as systemic lupus erythematosus

Dexketoprofen interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Dexketoprofen?

This medicine is available in form of granules for oral solution and film-coated tablets.

You should take dexketoprofen exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. The dose will be prescribed according to your condition and needs.

  • The usual dose of granules for oral solution in adults over age 18 is 1 sachet (25 mg) every 8 hours, with no more than 3 sachets daily (75 mg).
  • The usual dose of film-coated tablets is 1 tablet (25 mg) every 8 hours, with no more than 3 tablets daily (75 mg).

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Do not miss any doses and take the medicine at the same time each day. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Dexketoprofen side effects?

Like all medicines dexketoprofen can cause side effects, including:


  • nausea and/or vomiting
  • stomach pain
  • diarrhea
  • digestive problems (dyspepsia)


  • spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • dizziness, sleepiness
  • disturbed sleep
  • nervousness
  • headache
  • palpitations, flushing
  • stomach problems, constipation
  • dry mouth
  • flatulence
  • skin rash
  • tiredness, pain, feeling feverish and shivering
  • generally feeling unwell (malaise)
