What is this drug?

Inderal is a cardio-protective antihypertensive medicine. It is prescribed to treat high bold pressure, angina, irregular heartbeats, tremors and other circulatory problems. It is heart protective and increases the chances of survival after a heart attack.

Classification and Mechanism of Action

Inderal is a beta-blocker with Propranolol Hydrochloride as the active drug. It is a non-selective b-blocker. It blocks both the b1 and b2 receptors and their inhibition reduces B.P., heart rate, myocardial contractility and oxygen demand.

How to take Inderal?

Dosage depends on the condition being treated. The initial starting dose is 20 mg twice in a day. Consult your doctor for your correct dose.

Missed Dose

If it is time for your next dose then skip the missed dose or else take it as soon as you remember. Do not double dose.

Warnings and Precautions

Stopping this medication abruptly can cause an ischaemic attack. Taper off gradually if it needs withdrawal. Contraindicated in children and patients with haemangiomas and pheochromocytoma.
