About Auvelity

Auvelity is an effective medication used in the treatment of adults with MDD (major depressive disorder). The primary ingredients in Auvelity are bupropion and dextromethorphan.

Auvelity is prescribed to adults with MDD to help relieve the symptoms of this condition and improve recovery. It is not known whether Auvelity is safe and effective when used to treat MDD in children.

When is Auvelity prescribed?

Auvelity is a rapid-acting oral antidepressant drug indicated for the management of major depressive disorders in adult patients. Auvelity offers a new approach to the treatment of the major depressive disorder, which is different from the other commonly used oral antidepressant medications.

How to use Auvelity?

The usual recommended dose of Auvelity is one tablet once a day, preferably in the morning, for 3 days. The dose can be increased to the maximum recommended twice-a-day dosage. An interval of at least 8 hours must be maintained between 2 consecutive doses of this drug.

The extended-release tablets of Auvelity contain 45 mg of dextromethorphan hydrobromide and 105 mg of bupropion hydrochloride.

Before initiating the treatment with Auvelity, the patient should be screened for a history of mania, hypomania, or bipolar disorder.

Patients are advised to contact a physician to learn more about the dosage recommendations of Auvelity.

The common side effects of Auvelity include:

  • Seizures
  • Increases in blood pressure
  • Manic episodes with symptoms like greatly increased energy, unusually grand ideas, and racing thoughts

Key highlights of Auvelity

  • Auvelity may increase suicidal thoughts and behavior in young adults, children, and adolescents, especially during the initial few months of the treatment or when the dosage is changed. Hence, the use of Auvelity should be avoided in children.
  • Close attention should be paid to the new or sudden changes in behavior, mood, thoughts, and feelings of the patient after the treatment with this drug is initiated.
  • Contact the physician if the patient develops the signs of adverse effects such as suicidal actions or thoughts, new or worsening anxiety or depression, agitation, restlessness, reduced sleep (insomnia), and aggressive or violent behavior.
