Description

This medicine contains the active ingredient miconazole which belongs to a group of medicines called anti-fungal agents. These medicines are used to treat and prevent fungal and yeast infections by invading the affected areas of the skin and killing the fungi or impeding their growth. The usual symptoms are discharge, itching, redness and unpleasant smell. Miconazole is usually prescribed for the treatment of the vaginal infections caused by Candida and superinfections due to Gram-positive bacteria.

Is Miconazole suitable for me?

Miconazole is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

  • if you are allergic to miconazole or to other ingredients of this medicine

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

  • are under 18 years of age
  • are pregnant or breastfeeding

Miconazole interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Miconazole?

This medicine is available in form of a pessary.

You should take Miconazole exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.

  • The usual dose is one 200 mg pessary as a single dose (inserted into the vagina before bedtime).

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Do not miss any doses and use the medicine at the same time each day. Do not apply two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Miconazole side effects?

Like all medicines Miconazole can cause side effects, including:

  • rash
  • vaginal burning sensation
  • vulvovaginal discomfort
  • dysmenorrhoea

Uncommon:

  • urticaria
  • angioedema
  • pruritus
  • vaginal irritation
  • pelvic cramps
  • headache
  • infection of urine or pain in passing urine
  • nausea
