Fertomid 25 & 50 Mg (Clomiphene)

What is this drug?

Fertomid is fertility drug which induces ovulation in the ovaries. It contains Clomiphene citrate as an active ingredient. Fertomid is prescribed to those women who fail to conceive due to hormonal problems and are anovulatory.

Classification and Mechanism of Action

Fertomid 25 or 50 mg is a selective oestrogen receptor modulator and acts at the estrogen receptor centre in the brain. It tricks the brain into believing that the estrogen levels in the body are low and it spurs the process which is essential for an egg formation and maturation. It is also used in men who have low sperm counts.

Looking after your drug

Keep it in its pack away from moisture and direct light. Store it at a temperature below 25^C.

How to take Fertomid?

This drug should be taken orally once in a day for five days at the same time, starting from the 5^th day of the menstrual cycle.

Dosage

Typically, it is 50 mg otherwise 25 mg a day for five days.

Overdose

Seek medical attention immediately.

Missed Dose

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If you miss more than one dose then consult your doctor.

Warnings and Precautions

Seek medical help in case of an allergic reaction. Do not take this drug if you are pregnant as it can cause birth defects.

Possible Side Effects

Common side effects are GI upset, Bloating, Headache, Dizziness and hot flushes.

When the drug should not be used?

Do not take this drug in cases of pregnancy or lactating, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, thyroid problems, allergy or hypersensitivity.

How long should you take the drug?

It should be taken for a duration of five days.
