What is this drug

Generic Betnovate is a cream that is used in treatment of a number of skin conditions. It is used in treating various types of eczema, skin inflammations caused by irritants and allergies, psoriasis, sebborrhoeic dermatitis, lichen simplex, prurigo nodularis, discoid lupus erythematosus, generalized erythroderma and reactions to insect stings and bites.

Classification and Mechanism of Action

Generic Betnovate is a corticosteroid drug which means that it primarily reduces inflammation. It reduces the levels of substances that are released and that cause the inflammatory response in the skin. Due to this property, Generic Betnovate can be used in treating a variety of skin conditions and inflammations.

You should keep your Generic Betnovate away from direct sun light, moisture and heat.

How to take the medication

Generic Betnovate is applied in a very thin layer on washed and dried skin. If the doctor has recommended that you dress the area as well, do that. Wash your hands after applying Generic Betnovate. Do not use Generic Betnovate more often and for longer periods of time than the doctor has recommended.


Most people will be prescribed to use Generic Betnovate once or twice a day to begin with. After the condition has started to improve, the application schedule will become more lax, with fewer applications over time.


If you have ingested Generic Betnovate or if you think you have applied to much of the cream, contact emergency medical services.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, apply the Generic Betnovate cream as soon as you remember.

Warnings and Precautions

Do not ingest Generic Betnovate. Do not use Generic Betnovate on children under the age of 1. Do not use the drug as a moisturizer. Do not apply Generic Betnovate to broken or injured skin. If Generic Betnovate is used on face, do not use it for more than 5 days. If you believe that the area has become infected, consult your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

Possible side effects of Generic Betnovate may include: excessive hair growth, grouping of blood vessels becoming prominent, stretch marks, thinning of the skin, skin irritation, worsening and spread of untreated infections. If either of the last two should occur, contact your doctor at once.

Treating skin irritation and inflammation

Generic Betnovate is a very useful topical cream used for treating a wide variety of skin inflammations and associated conditions. It has been found to mitigate the redness, itching and other symptoms of these various skin conditions very effectively. It has found widespread use and it is usually very well tolerated.

When the drug should not be used

Generic Betnovate should not be used on children younger than 1, people with fungal, bacterial and viral skin infections, people with acne, inflammatory disorder of skin on the face, wide spread psoriasis, itching around anus and genitals. People who are allergic to betamethasone should also not use the drug. Pregnant women should also consult their physician about using this drug as it may have detrimental effects on the health of the unborn child.

How long should you take the drug

You should take Generic Betnovate for as long as the doctor has prescribed it. In general, Generic Betnovate is not used for more than 5 weeks at once. Do not stop using the drug unless your doctor has instructed you to do so.
