Dutas (Dutasteride 0.5Mg)

What is Dutas?

Dutas is prescribed for males suffering from Benign Prostate Hyperplasia or an enlarged prostate. It reduces the size of the prostate thereby relieving urinary symptoms like a weak stream, difficulty in urination, frequent urge etc. It may help in avoiding surgery for BPH. It is not recommended for prostatic cancer.

Class and Mechanism of Action

Dutas contains Dutasteride as the active drug which is a 5 alpha-reductase enzyme inhibitor. Dutas blocks the conversion of the hormone testosterone to DHT (dihydrotestosterone). DHT is a hormone involved in the enlargement of the prostate. 

Looking after your drug

Store it at temperatures between 59⁰F to 86⁰F. Keep away from moisture, heat, and from the reach of kids.

 How to take the medication?

Take it orally once in a day. Do not break or chew the medicine. Swallow it whole.

Dosage

The usual recommended dose is 0.5 mg once in a day. Consult your doctor for the correct dose.

Consult your doctor.

Missed Dose

If it is time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose or else take it as soon as you remember. Do not double dose.

Warnings and Precautions

Use with caution in renal and hepatic diseases. Leaking capsule may allow absorption from the skin. Women and children should avoid handling the capsules.

Possible Side Effects

• Impotence
• Reduced semen production
• Breast enlargement in males

When should Dutas not be used?

Severe hepatic failure, pregnant women, hypersensitivity to the medicine

How long should you take Dutas?

As long as prescribed.
