What is this drug?

Generic Neomercazole is an anti-thyroid medicine used to treat overactive thyroid resulting in hyperthyroidism, thyrotoxicosis, grave’s disease or goitre. It should be prescribed only when hyperthyroid state is confirmed by lab values.

Classification and Mechanism of Action

Generic Neomercazole contains Carbimazole which is an anti-thyroid medicine belonging to the azole group. Carbimazole gets metabolised in the body into active methimazole which prevents thyroid peroxidase from iodinating and coupling thyroglobulin.
