What is this drug?
Alphagan Eye Drops is an ophthalmic preparation used to treat high fluid pressure in the eye caused due to glaucoma. It contains Brimonidine tartrate as the generic drug and helps in saving the eye from vision loss, nerve damage or permanent blindness.
Classification and Mechanism of Action
Alphagan Eye Drops is an intraocular pressure reducing agent which is a selective alpha 2-receptor agonist. It acts of the alpha 2-adrenergic receptors in the eye and reduces pressure by allowing better eye drainage and reduction in the fluid formation.
Looking after your drug
Store it in a cool and dry place away from the reach of children. Do not freeze. Avoid contamination of the tip of the dropper.
How to take Alphagan Eye Drops ?
Wash hands and instil one drop in the affected eye as prescribed.
Dosage
1 drop in the affected eye every 8 hourly. However, consult your doctor for the correct dosage as it varies depending on multiple factors.
Overdose
Wash your eye with plenty of water and seek medical advice.
Missed Dose
If it is time for your next dose then skip the missed dose or else take it as soon as you remember.
Warnings and Precautions
Do not instil with contacts in the eye. Do not rinse or contaminate the dropper.

When Alphagan Eye Drops should not be used?
It may not be advisable in cases of severe kidney, heart and liver disease, Raynaud’s disease, circulation insufficiency.
