What is it
Generic Floxin is an antibiotic used in treatment of bacterial infections. It is usually prescribed for moderate to serious infections such as bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, cervix and urethra infections, acute pelvic inflammatory disease, cystitis, UTIs, prostatitis, Chlamydia and gonorrhea. Classification and Mechanism of Action
The active ingredient of Generic Floxin is ofloxacin, a chemotherapeutic antibiotic that belongs to the class of fluoroquinolones. It is effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It works by inhibiting the DNA gyrase, an enzyme required for bacterial cell division and hence their growth and multiplication.

How to take it
Generic Floxin 200 mg is an oral medication taken by mouth, with some water. Like most antibiotics, it needs to be maintained at certain levels in the body, which is why it is recommended to take it at designated times and in regular intervals. Avoid taking Generic Floxin at the same time as the drug containing calcium, magnesium or aluminum.
The exact dosage depends on the type of infection but in most cases it ranges from 200 mg to 400 mg every 12 hours (twice a day). In some patients, especially those with kidney and liver problems, the dosage needs to be adjusted by a doctor.
Never take more than the maximum recommended dosage of this drug, otherwise you might be at risk of an overdose. One of the prevalent symptoms of overdose with Generic Floxin is dizziness. In case of overdose, seek immediate medical help.
If you accidentally skip a dose, take one when you can or when you remember, but not if the time for the next scheduled dose is too soon. Doubling the dose can be dangerous.

Generic Floxin may cause a heart condition called QT prolongation. Possible Side Effects
Common side effects of Generic Floxin include headache, upset stomach, nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, trouble sleeping. These are expected to go away once you stop using the drug. More serious, however less common side effects, may include persistent headache, fever, vision problems, mental changes, irregular heartbeat, unusual bruising or bleeding, severe dizziness and fainting. Symptoms of an allergic reaction may include swelling, difficulty breathing, rash, hives, irregular heartbeat, very low blood pressure, fainting and seizures. These require immediate medical attention. Prolonged use of this drug may cause oral thrush or vaginal yeast infection.
