What is this drug?

Baycip TZ 500/600 is an antibiotic containing the combination of Ciprofloxacin 500mg with Tinidazole 600mg. It is used to treat a multitude of bacterial infections like UTI, Upper respiratory tract infections, lower respiratory tract infections and in combination with Tinidazole it is used specifically to target trichomonas infections.

Classification and Mechanism of Action

Ciprofloxacin belongs to the drug class of fluoroquinolones and acts by inhibiting an enzyme in the bacteria which is crucial to the DNA replication and repair of the bacterial cell. The cell then becomes unable to divide and dies. Tinidazole is a nitroimidazole antitrichomonal agent effective against trichomonas infections. It also kills bacteria by DNA damage.
