What is Tradjenta (Linagliptin)?

Linagliptin is an oral medication that is available in the form of a tablet. This is a dipeptidyl-peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor given to the patients of diabetes type 2. Lingaliptin is a generic name for tradjenta.

Classification and Mechanism of Action

The dug falls in the class of anti-diabetic specialists and Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 (DPP-IV) Inhibitor. Linagliptin is available in 5mg strengths. It delays the breakdown of endogenous incretin hormones.

How to take Generic Tradjenta?

Generic Tradjenta is taken with or without food by mouth. The patient should take the medication on time to ensure maximum benefits. Do not miss the dose even if you do not feel well.


The recommended dosage of linagliptin is 5mg every day. It is not suitable for children or elderly patients. If the drug is used with a combination of insulin or an insulin secretagogue, make sure the dosage of insulin or an insulin secretagogue is lower. It will help to avoid hypoglycemia.

Missed dose

Never take two doses of linagliptin together. If you miss a dose of your medication, take it as soon as you can. Do not take the drug if the time for your next scheduled dose is near.



Warnings and Precautions


  • Inform the doctor if you have type 1 diabetes or high levels of blood ketrone
  • Consult  your doctor if you experience any allergic reaction due to the ingredients in linagliptin
  • Monitor for signs/indications of pancreatitis; suspend if suspected.
  • Discontinue if a genuine extreme touchiness response is suspected.
  • With other DPP-4 inhibitors, pancreatitis can happen
