What is this drug?
Cytotec is used to prevent an occurrence of gastric ulcers which occur due to NSAIDs. It also reduces the chances of gastric bleeding.It is also prescribed for induction of labour and in abortions.
Classification and Mechanism of Action
Misoprostol is the generic in Cytotec. It is a synthetic prostaglandin E1. It reduces the formation of gastric acid and prevents its ulcerative action on the mucosal lining of the stomach.It induces labour by contracting the smooth muscles of the uterus.

Store it in a cool and dry place away from the reach of children.
How to take the medication?
Take it orally with food and at bedtime to prevent GI upset. Follow the instructions of the doctor to the letter.
Dosage
The usual recommended dose for GI ulcers is 200mcg 4 times in a day. Consult your doctor for your correct dose.
Overdose
Consult your doctor right away.
Missed Dose
If it is time for your next dose then skip the missed dose or else take it as soon as you remember. Do not double dose.
Warnings and Precautions
Do not take if you are pregnant. In can induce labour and can cause abortion. Exercise caution in renal and liver impairments.

When Cytotec should not be used?
Do not use if you are pregnant, had uterine surgery recently, or are allergic to Cytotec.
