Description

This medicine contains the active ingredient travoprost which belongs to a group of medicines called prostaglandin analogues. These medicine lower the elevated eye pressure by increasing the natural outflow of fluid from the inside of the eye to the blood stream. Travoprost is prescribed for the treatment of open angle glaucoma and elevated intraocular pressure.

Is Travoprost suitable for me?

Travoprost is not suitable for everyone. Do not use it

  • if you are allergic to travoprost, or to other ingredients of this medicine
  • if it is meant for children under 2 months of age

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

  • are pregnant, or breastfeeding
  • severe or uncontrolled asthma
  • had eye surgery such as cataract surgery or are about to have eye surgery
  • have ever had viral infection in your eye
  • wear contact lenses 

Travoprost interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

How should I take Travoprost?

This medicine is available in form of eye drops.

You should take travoprost exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist.

  • The usual dose is one drop of the medicine into the affected eye (or eyes), once a day. The best time to apply it is in the evening.
  • The drop is put between the lower eyelid and the eye.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Do not miss any doses and take the medicine at the same time each day. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.

What are Travoprost side effects?

Like all medicines travoprost can cause side effects, including:

Very common:

  • eye redness

Common:

  • gradual change of eye color
  • eye pain, eye discomfort
  • dry eye, itchy eye
  • eye irritation
