This may occur due to:

  • chronic inflammation of the pancreas (chronic pancreatitis)
  • characteristic functional disorders of the pancreas (cystic fibrosis)
  • problems caused by a tumor or gallstones
  • malfunction of the liver and gallbladder,
  • operation of the pancreas,
  • accelerated flow through the intestines after gastric or intestine surgery, anxiety or inflammatory bowel disease
  • consummation of certain foods, which leads to difficulties with absorption of nutrients, and dysfunction of the digestive organs associated with loss of appetite, belching, retching and diarrhea
  • intolerance to gluten - a protein found in grains
  • inflammatory bowel disease (especially Crohn's disease)
  • diabetes (Diabetes mellitus),
  • acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS),
  • insufficient function of the pancreas, bone marrow disorders, skeletal disorders and predisposition towards developing leukemia (Shwachmanovog syndrome)
  • autoimmune disease that affects the glands and internal organs (Sj√∂gren's syndrome)

Is Pancreatin suitable for me?

Pancreatin is not suitable for everyone. Do not use

  • if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to pancreatin or to any of the other ingredients in this medicine
  • during acute inflammation or acute episodes of chronic inflammation of the pancreas in an advanced stage of the disease

In particular, you must tell the doctor if you:

  • are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breast-feeding
  • have bowel obstruction

Pancreatin interacts with other medicines. It is most important that you tell the doctor all the medications and herbal supplements that you are currently taking.

See the package leaflet for a complete list of possible contraindications and warnings.

How should I take Pancreatin?

This medicine is available in form of a gastro-resistant tablet.

You should take pancreatin exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. You will be prescribed your dose according to your needs.

  • The usual dose is 20,000 to 40,000 units of lipase taken with food
  • Maximum daily dose of enzymes is 15000-20000 units of lipase per kilogram of body weight.

Do not use more of it, do not use it more often, or do not use it for a longer time than your doctor instructed. Also, this medicine works best if there is a constant amount in the blood. To help keep this amount constant, do not miss any doses and take the medicine at the same time each day. Do not take two doses together if you miss a dose.
