Generic Crestor is a drug from the class of statins that is used for lowering high blood cholesterol levels. More precisely, it lowers the levels of LDL, which is the so-called “bad” cholesterol, responsible for increased risk of stroke, coronary artery disease and heart attack. In addition, Generic Crestor raises the levels of HDL, which is the “good” cholesterol, and lowers the levels of triglycerides.
Classification and Mechanism of ActionThe active ingredient of Generic Crestor is Generic Crestortatin, a drug from the class of statins. Statins lower the cholesterol levels by inhibiting a liver enzyme called HMG-CoA reductase, which produces cholesterol. Statins also reduce the risk of heart attack by reducing the levels of Hs-CRP, a chemical associated with the inflammation of coronary arteries. In addition, statins increase LDL (“good” cholesterol) levels and reduce the triglyceride levels, all of which greatly reduces the risk of atherosclerosis, heart attack and stroke.
