Why is this medication prescribed?
Nexpro (Generic Nexium) is used to treat ulcers, erosive esophagitis, gastro esophageal reflux disease (heartburn or GERD), and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid production.
It works by inhibiting the amount of acid produced in the stomach.
How should this medicine be used?
You are advised to follow the prescribed dosage from your doctor.
Mostly, the dosage is one tablet 20-40mg hour before eating.
What side effects can this medication cause?
The side effects may include: - diarrhoea
- a dry mouth
- flatulence
- abdominal paine
- headaches
- constipation
If you experience any of the
following symptoms you should stop
taking the tablets and tell your doctor:
- skin rash
- difficulty breathing
- swelling of your lips,
tongue, throat, ankles, or
lower legs
- hives
What special precautions should I follow?
- Tell your doctor if you have ever had any type of liver disease.
- Tell your doctor if you are taking ketoconazole, digoxin or iron salts as Nexpro (Generic Nexium)
can lower the absorption of these medications and therefore decrease their effect.
- If you are taking digoxin (Lanoxicaps, Lanoxin), iron supplements,
vitamins that contain iron, or Nizoral(ketoconazole), you should take these
medications at least 2 hours before taking Nexpro (Generic Nexium).
- Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had liver disease.
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are
breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking Nexpro (Generic Nexium), call your
doctor.
