Why is this medication prescribed?
Generic Exelon is used for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.
It prevents an enzyme known as acetylcholinesterase from breaking down
acetylcholine in the brain and also increases concentrations of acetylcholine lead to increased communication
between nerve cells.
How should this medicine be used?
Generic Exelon is
usually taken twice a day with food. Follow the directions on your prescription
label carefully, and ask your doctor to explain any part you do
not understand. Take Generic Exelon exactly as directed. Do not take more or less
than prescribed by your doctor.
What side effects can this medication cause?
Weight loss.
Tell your doctor if any
of these side effects are severe or do not go away:
nausea
- upset stomach
- vomiting
- loss of appetite
- stomach pain
- weight loss
- diarrhea
- dizziness
- headache
- tremor
- constipation
The following side effects are
uncommon, but if you experience any of them, call your doctor immediately:
- fainting
- red blood in stools
- bloody vomit
- difficulty urinating
- a skin rash
- seizures
- depression
- anxiety
- hallucinating
What special precautions should I follow?
- Tell your doctor if you are allergic to Generic Exelon,
neostigmine , physostigmine,
pyridostigmine, or any other medications.
- Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had ulcers, an
enlarged prostate,heart disease , asthma, or other lung
disease.
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are
breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking Generic Exelon, call your
doctor.
- If you are having surgery, tell the doctor o that you are taking Generic Exelon.
- Generic Exelon may make you drowsy. Do not drive a car
until you know how this medication affects you.
- Alcohol can add to the drowsiness caused by this medication.
