Why is this medication prescribed?
Generic Atacand is used to treat high blood pressure. It works by blocking
the action of certain chemicals that tighten the blood vessels, so blood flows
more smoothly. Generic Atacand belongs to a group of antihypertensive
medications called angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARB).
How should this medicine be used?
Generic Atacand is usually
taken once or twice a day with or without food. Follow the directions on your
prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor to explain any
part you do not understand. Take Generic Atacand exactly as directed. Do not take
more or less than prescribed by your doctor.
What side effects can this medication cause?
Tell your doctor if any of these side effects are severe or do not go
away:
- congestion
- runny nose
- cough
- sore throat
- diarrhea
- headache
- muscle aches
- dizziness
- lightheadedness
- back pain
- fever
If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your
doctor immediately:
- swelling of the face, eyes, lips, tongue, or lower legs
- fainting
- difficulty breathing or swallowing
- a skin rash
What special precautions should I follow?
- Do
not drive, or operate machinery, until you know how you react to Generic Atacand.
- Using this
medicine with alcohol may lessen
your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous
tasks.
- Tell your doctor about all the medications you are taking.
- If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor
immediately. Do not breast-feed while taking Generic Atacand.
- Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had liver, kidney, or heart
disease.
