Description

What is this drug?

Clindamycin topical gel is a topical anti-infective used to treat acne on the face, back and chest. It is also available as Clindamax and Cleocin T. Clindamycin topical comes in forms of gel, lotion and solutions.

Classification and Mechanism of Action

Clindamycin is a Lincomycin antibacterial. It acts on the bacteria present in the comedones of the acne. It has a bacteriostatic effect and it stops the growth of the bacteria and treating acne. It also reduces the free fatty acids in the skin which clog pores. It removes excess oil and dirt and cleans pores.

Store it in a cool and dry place away from the reach of children.

How to take the medication?

It is to be applied on external skin only. Apply a small amount directly on the affected skin. Clean the skin before applying the medicine. It works best if applied at the same time every day.

Dosage

Apply to the affected area twice a day.

Overdose

Do not swallow. In case of accidental swallowing seek medical help immediately.

Missed Dose

If it is time for your next dose then skip the missed dose or else take it as soon as you remember. Do not double dose.

Warnings and Precautions

Use with caution in elderly, pregnant and lactating women. Do not use in children below 6 years of age. Do not use in abdomen disorders. It reacts with erythromycin.

·       Oily skin

·       Blisters

·       Abdominal cramps, bloating, diarrhoea

When Generic Clindamycin Topical Gel should not be used?

Do not use in Crohn’s disease, antibiotic induced colitis, other forms of colitis. Do not use if you are allergic to the drug.

How long should you take Generic Clindamycin Topical Gel?

As long as prescribed.
