What is Zyloric?
Zyloric is a medicine prescribed to reduce excess uric acid production in the blood. It is prescribed in gout, kidney stones and in people with cancers receiving chemotherapy. The other brand names of Zyloric are Aloprim and Lopurin.
Classification and Mode of Action
Zyloric contains Allopurinol as the active ingredient. Allopurinol is a xanthine oxidase inhibitor. Uric acid in a human body is synthesized through a process called purine catabolism where an enzyme xanthine oxidase converts hypoxanthine to xanthine and xanthine is further converted to uric acid. Zyloric inhibits this enzyme and stops the formation of uric acid in blood.
