What is this drug?

Ditropan is prescribed to treat certain problems of urinary tract like overactive bladder leading to urgency, frequent urination, incontinence and spasm of the bladder. Its other brand names are Ditropan XL, Anturol, Oxytrol.

Classification and Mechanism of Action

Ditropan contains Oxybutynin as the active ingredient. It is an antispasmodic and it relieves involuntary spasm and contractions of smooth muscles in the bladder. It blocks a chemical called acetylcholine which is responsible for the contraction and thus helps relieve leaking, urgency and frequent trips to the bathroom.

If it is time for your next dose then skip the missed dose or else take it as soon as you remember. Do not double dose.

Warnings and Precautions

It may cause dementia. Use with caution in ulcerative colitis, angle-closure glaucoma, hyperthyroidism and obstructive uropathy.
