Why is this medication prescribed? S Citadep (Generic
Lexapro) is used to treat depression and generalized
anxiety disorder. It works by increasing the amount of serotonin, a natural substance in
the brain that helps maintaining mental balance. S Citadep (Generic Lexapro)
is in a class of antidepressants called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors
(SSRIs).
How should this medicine be used? Take Generic Lexapro daily or
as prescribed by your physician. It can be taken with
or without food.
What side effects can this medication cause? S Citadep (Escitalopram) may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any
of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
- constipation
- sleeping difficulties
- drowsiness
- dry mouth
- runny nose
- increased sweating
- diarrhea
- changes in sex drive or ability
- dizziness
- sneezing
- heartburn
- stomach pain
The following symptoms are
uncommon, but if you experience either of them, call your doctor immediately:
- unusual excitement
- seeing or hearingthings that do not exist (hallucinating)
What special precautions should I follow? Before taking S Citadep (Generic Lexapro),
- do not take S Citadep (Generic Lexapro) if you are taking an MAO inhibitor such as
phenelzine or tranylcypromine or have stopped taking them
in the last 14 days.
- alcohol can add to the drowsiness caused by this medication.
- tell your doctor about all
medications you are
taking. Be sure to mention anticoagulants; antihistamines; nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory
medications (NSAIDs).
- tell your doctor if you have or have ever had depression, mania,
a heart attack, seizures or kidney, liver, or heart disease.
- tell your doctor o if you are allergic to escitalopram,
citalopram (Celexa), or any other medications.
- tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or if you are
breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking S Citadep (Generic Lexapro), call your
doctor immediately.
- if you are having surgery, tell the doctor that you are taking S Citadep (Generic Lexapro).
- S Citadep (Generic Lexapro) may make you drowsy. Do not drive a car
until you know how this medication affects you.
