What is Zetia 10mg

Zetia is a medication used to manage high cholesterol in adults. The main ingredient of Zetia is ezetimibe which is used to lower Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) by stopping the absorption of cholesterol from the small intestine. This decreases the cholesterol being delivered to the liver and increases elimination of cholesterol from the body. Zetia is often prescribed in addition to healthy diet and exercise and may be combined with other lipid-lowering medications.

When is Zetia prescribed?

Zetia can be used when diet and exercise alone are insufficient in controlling cholesterol levels in the body. It is often prescribed by itself or in combination with other medications to lower cholesterol and improve overall health. It is safe and highly effective when given with statins such as Atorvastatin or Simvastatin. Cholesterol build-up can lead to heart problems such as heart attack and stroke. Zetia helps maintain healthy cholesterol levels and can aid in preventing these complications.

What are the side effects of Zetia?

Side effects of Zetia are rare but can include: fatigue, diarrhea, stomach pain, headache, flu-like symptoms, muscle pain, sinus infection, or swelling.

Key highlights of Zetia

Zetia should be taken at the same time each day for full effect. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it is close to your next dose, skip it and continue with regular dosing- do not double dose. Patients with mild liver disease or kidney disease do not need to adjust the dose. If you have severe liver injury do not take Zetia. No dose adjustment is needed for elderly patients.

Zetia should be taken along with a healthy diet and regular exercise. Consult a doctor about using Zetia if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Zetia is approved for individuals 10 years of age and older. Stop taking Zetia if you develop an allergic reaction such as hives, rash, or swelling. Take without regards to meals, with or without food. May take at the same time as statins.  

What are the drug interactions of Zetia?
