Why is this medication prescribed?
Motilium is used to control the symptoms of
nausea and vomiting. It works by blocking dopamine receptors in the
brain which are activated when stomach pain creates an urge to start vomiting.
Motilium is also used to control the feeling of a
bloated stomach after eating and some other types of discomfort
caused by over eating.
How should this medicine be used?
one tablet of
Motilium is usually taken 15 to 30 minutes before eating and if
required at bedtime.
Do not take more than 4 tablets
per day.
What side effects can Motilium cause?
The side effects include:
- Diarrhoea
- uncontrolled movements of the hands, neck , legs and face
- Stomach cramps
- Lower sex drive
- Swelling of the breasts in men
- Rash
What special precautions should I follow?
- Tell your doctor
if you have experienced liver problems, gastro-intestinal bleeding
or previous gastro-intestinal obstructions before taking this
medication.
- Breast feeding mothers should be aware that
small amounts of Motilium do appear in breast milk. If you
are concerned by this, please consult you doctor.
