Description

Atorlip (Atorvastatin Calcium)

This drug is used to reduce high levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. It is mainly used by patients who are at risk of coronary heart disease to minimize the risks of heart attack, stroke, revascularization procedures, myocardial infarction and angina.Classification and Mechanism of Action

Atorlip contains Atorvastatin Calcium as the active ingredient. Atorlip is classified on the basis of quantity of Atorvastatin present as tablets of 5 mg, 10 mg, 20 mg and 40 mg respectively. Atorvastatin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase to lower the level of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and raise the level of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol in the blood. This drug reduces the risk of stroke, heart attack and vascular disease.

How to take the medication

  • You can take this medication with or without food
  • It should be taken with plenty of water

Dosage

The correct dose varies from person to person depending on the health conditions.

 

  • The dose ranges from 10 mg to 80 mg once daily
  • The recommended starting dose is 10 or 20 mg once daily

Overdose

Go to the nearest emergency room or contact your doctor.

Missed Dose

In case you miss a dose, and it is time to take the next dose then you should skip the missed dose and do not take 2 doses at a time.

Warnings and Precautions

→Avoid large amounts of alcohol and grapefruit
→You need to alert your doctor if

  • You are allergic to Atorlip
  • You are experiencing continuous or severe muscle soreness and weakness
  • You are pregnant
  • You have low blood pressure
  • You drink alcohol
  • You have liver problems

When Atorlip should not be used

This drug should not be taken if

  • You are suffering from liver disease
  • You are allergic to any ingredient in Atorlip
  • You are taking macrolide antibiotics
