What is this drug?

Periactin is an allergy medication used to treat seasonal and other forms of allergy. It is used to relieve symptoms like itching, sneezing, runny nose and watery eyes. It has a sedative effect and can be used in cases of nightmares.

Classification and Mechanism of Action

Periactin contains Cyproheptadine as a main ingredient. It is a histamine and serotonin antagonist. It acts on the serotonin and histamine receptors and blocks their action in the body. It also antagonises the vasopressor, spasmogenic and bronchoconstrictive actions of histamine.

Do not use in acute exacerbation of asthma, lower respiratory tract infection. Do not consume alcohol while taking this medicine.
