Description
What is this drug

Generic Singulair is an oral drug which is used in managing asthma and relief from symptoms of seasonal allergies. It is not meant to be used as treatment for acute asthma attacks but it is very successful in controlling asthma and reducing the number of attacks. Its generic name is Montelukast and it is available under brand names like Monteflo and Lukotas.

Classification and Mechanism of Action

Generic Singulair is a leukotriene receptor antagonist, or LTRA for short. It blocks the action of leukotriene in the lungs and bronchial tubes. This leads to the easing of bronchoconstriction and reduced inflammation. It is mostly used as an addition to the more traditional treatment of asthma and seasonal allergies.
