Why is this medication prescribed?
Novamox (Generic Amoxil) is a penicillin-like antibiotic
used to treat infections caused by bacteria, such as
bronchitis; pneumonia; venereal disease; and lung, ear, nose,
urinary tract, and skin infections. It also is used before some
surgery to prevent infection.
How should this medicine be used?
Capsules should be
swallowed whole with a full glass of water. Continue
taking Novamox (Generic Amoxil) even if you feel good. Do not stop taking
Novamox (Generic Amoxil) without talking to your doctor.
What side effects can this medication cause?
Although side effects from
Novamox (Generic Amoxil) are not common, they can occur. Tell your doctor if any
of these side effects are severe or do not go away:
- upset stomach
- vomiting
-
diarrhea
If you experience any of the
following ide effects, call your doctor immediately:
- hives
- vaginal infection
- difficulty breathing or swallowing
- a skin rash
- wheezing
- seizures
- yellowing of the eyes or skin
- irregular heartbeat
What special precautions should I follow?
Before taking Novamox (Generic Amoxil),- Tell
your doctor if you are allergic to Novamox (Generic Amoxil),
penicillin, or any other drugs,
especially other antibiotics, allopurinol, anticoagulants
('blood thinners') such as warfarin, oral contraceptives and
probenecid.
- Tell your doctor if you have or
have ever had liver or kidney disease, allergies, asthma, blood
disease, stomach problems, colitis, or hay fever
- Tell your doctor
if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding.
If you become pregnant while taking Novamox (Generic Amoxil), call your doctor immediately.
- If you are having surgery tell the doctor that you are taking Novamox (Generic Amoxil).
