Why is this medication prescribed?
Syndopa (Generic Flutide) is used to treat the
symptoms of Parkinson's disease including tremors, stiffness, and
slowness of movement. It also may improve your walk, speech, posture, swallowing,
handwriting, vigor and alertness .
How should this medicine be used?
Syndopa (Generic Flutide) usually is taken
3 or 4 times a day. Follow the directions on your prescription label
carefully, and ask your doctor to explain any part you do not
understand. Take Syndopa (Generic Flutide) exactly as directed. Do not take more or
less than prescribed by your doctor.
What side effects can this medication cause?
Your
urine may turn dark; this effect is not harmful.
Tell your doctor if any of these side effects are severe or do not
go away:
- headaches
- weakness
- dizziness
- upset stomach
- vomiting
- fatigue
- loss of appetite
- memory loss
- nervousness
- sleeping, speaking difficulties
- increased sweating
If you experience any of the following side effects, call your
doctor immediately:
- difficulty walking
- shaking hands
- eye pain
- back and neck muscle spasms
- uncontrolled movements of the mouth, face, head, neck,
arms, and legs
- fast or irregular heartbeat
What special precautions should I follow?
Before taking Syndopa (Generic Flutide),
- Tell your doctor if you are allergic to levodopa and
carbidopa, aspirin, tartrazine, or any other drugs.
- MAO inhibitors must be discontinued at least two weeks prior to initiating therapy with
Syndopa (Generic Flutide).
- Tell your doctor what
medications you are taking, especially antacids, benztropine, dicyclomine, medications for
anxiety and depression , tranquilizers, vitamin preparations with vitamin B6, and other vitamins.
- Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had glaucoma; asthma; emphysema; hormone problems; skin cancer;
diabetes; heart attacks; ulcers; irregular heartbeat; seizures; or heart, liver, kidney
or lung disease.
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are
breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking Syndopa (Generic Flutide),
call your doctor.
- If you are having surgery, tell the doctor that you are taking Syndopa (Generic Flutide).
- Syndopa (Generic Flutide) may make you drowsy. Do not drive a car until you know how this drug affects you.
- Alcohol can add to the drowsiness caused by this drug.
