Why is this medication prescribed?
Generic Accupril is used alone or in combination with other
medications to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It is used in combination with other
medications to treat heart failure. It works by decreasing
certain chemical called angiotensin that tighten the blood vessels, so blood flows more smoothly
and the heart can pump blood more efficiently.
Generic Accupril is in a class of medications
called angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors.
How should this medicine be used?
Generic Accupril is usually taken once or twice a day. You can take Generic Accupril with or without food. Follow the directions on your prescription label
carefully, and ask your doctor to explain any part you do not
understand. Take Generic Accupril exactly as directed. Do not take more or less than prescribed by your doctor.
What side effects can this medication cause?
Generic Accupril may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of
these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
- feeling dizzy
- vomiting
- upset stomach
If you experience any of the following, call your doctor immediately:
- swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, feet, ankles, or
lower legs
- hoarseness
- difficulty breathing
- yellowing of the skin/eyes
- sore throat, chills
- fainting
- lightheadedness
- chest pain
What special precautions should I follow?
Before taking Generic Accupril,
- When pregnancy is detected, Generic Accupril must be
stopped immediately.
- Tell your doctor if you are allergic to Generic Accupril,
benazepril (Lotensin), captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), fosinopril
(Monopril), lisinopril (Zestril, Prinivil),trandolapril (Mavik), perindopril
(Aceon), ramipril (Altace), moexipril (Univasc), or any other medications.
- Tell your doctor about all
medications you are
taking, especailly: diuretics ('water pills');
tetracycline (Sumycin); potassium supplements; and lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid) .
- Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had kidney, liver, or heart
disease; lupus; scleroderma or diabetes.
