Why is this medication prescribed?
Generic Fosalan (Osteofos) is used to prevent osteoporosis in women who have
undergone menopause . Generic Fosalan (Osteofos) is also used to treat
osteoporosis in men and women who have developed it due to natural
causes or because they took corticosteroids. Generic Fosalan (Osteofos) is also used to treat Paget's disease of the bone.
Generic Fosalan (Osteofos)
is in a class of medications called bisphosphonates. It works by preventing bone
breakdown and increasing bone density to make bones stronger and
less likely to break.
How should this medicine be used?
The 10mg tablets should be taken once
a day.
The 70mg tablets should be taken once a week.
You are advised to
swallow the tablets whole and drink a full glass of water. The tablets are usually taken on an empty stomach once
morning. You should also try to
standing or sitting upright to decrease the risk of heartburn.
What side effects can this medication cause?
For most people, the side effects
from taking Generic Fosalan (Osteofos) are either mild or non-existent. However, some
people may experience the following side effects:
- stomach irritation/upset
- acid regurgitation
- stomach pain
- headache
- muscle or bone pain
- constipation
- gas
- bloating
- diarrhea
What special precautions should I follow?
- You should speak with your doctornIf you have a history of
esophageal, intestinal, digestion, kidney problems .
- Tell your doctor if you
are taking any antacids, aspirin products, calcium or
