Why is this medication prescribed?
Omez (Generic Omeprazon/Losec) is used to treat ulcers; gastroesophageal reflux
disease (GERD); and problems related to excess stomach,
such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and H. pylori.
How should this medicine be used?
Omez (Generic Omeprazon/Losec) is usually taken once a day before food.
The capsules must be swallowed whole. Do not crush or chew.
What side effects can this medication cause?
Tell your doctor if any of
these side effects are severe or do not go away:
- headache
- loss of appetite
- nausea
- stomach pain
- diarrhea
- dizziness
- mild rash
- constipation
- cough
If you experience any of the following side effects, call your doctor immediately:
- ringing ears
- sleep difficulties
- a skin rash
- fainting
- breath difficulties
- swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
What special precautions should I follow?
Before taking Omez (Generic Omeprazon/Losec),
- Tell your doctor what medications you are taking, especially the following:
ketoconazole (Nizoral); ampicillin;
anticoagulants ('blood thinners') such as warfarin (Coumadin);
cyclosporine; disulfiram (Antabuse);
phenytoin (Dilantin); diazepam (Valium); and tranquilizers.
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are
breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking Omez (Generic Omeprazon/Losec), call your
doctor.
- Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had liver or kidney disease.
- Tell your doctor if you are allergic to Omez (Generic Omeprazon/Losec) or any
other medications.
