Why is this medication prescribed?
Losacar (Generic Lorzaar) is used alone or in combination with other
medications to treat high blood pressure.
It is effective when used alone or with other high blood pressure
medications, such as diuretics that help the body get rid of water.
Losacar (Generic Lorzaar) works, by
preventing the hormone angiotensin II from constricting the blood vessels,
which tends to raise blood pressure, therfore allows more smooth flow.
How should this medicine be used?
Losacar (Generic Lorzaar) is usually
taken once or twice a day with or without food. Take it at the same time each day.
Follow the directions on your
prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor to explain any
part you do not understand. Take Losacar (Generic Lorzaar) exactly as directed. Do not take more
or less than prescribed by your doctor.
What side effects can this medication cause?
More common side effects may include cough, dizziness, upper respiratory infection.
Less common and rare side effects may include allergic reactions, back and leg pain, diarrhoea,
indigestion, insomnia, muscle cramps or pain, nasal congestion, sinus problems,
swelling of face, lips, throat, and tongue.
Tell your doctor if any of
these side effects are severe or do not go away:
- sore throat
- feeling dizzy
- runny nose
Call your doctor immediately, if you experience the following side effects:
- swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, or
lower legs
- insomnia
- hoarseness
- difficulty breathing or swallowing
- a skin rash
- fainting
What special precautions should I follow?
Before taking Losacar (Generic Lorzaar),
- Do not take Losacar (Generic Lorzaar) if you are pregnant. If you become
pregnant while taking Losacar (Generic Lorzaar), call your doctor immediately. Losacar (Generic Lorzaar) may
harm the fetus.
- It may take few weeks before the full benefit of Losacar (Generic Lorzaar) is felt.
- Tell your doctor if you are allergic to Losacar (Generic Lorzaar) or any
other medications.
- tell your doctor what
medications you are taking especially:
indomethacin (Indocin), diuretics ('water pills'), and potassium supplements.
- Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had heart failure or liver or
kidney disease.
