Why is this medication prescribed?
Generic Lamictal (Lamitor) is used to treat certain types of seizures in
patients who have Lennox-Gastaut syndrome or epilepsy. Generic Lamictal (Lamitor) is also used to
increase the time between episodes of mania, depression, and other abnormal moods in patients with bipolar I
disorder. Generic Lamictal (Lamitor) is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. It works by
decreasing abnormal excitement in the brain.
How should this medicine be used?
It is usually taken once or twice daily. Follow the directions on your prescription label.
Do not take more or less than prescribed by your doctor.
What side effects can this medication cause?
Generic Lamictal (Lamitor) may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of
these symptoms do not go away:
- coordination problems
- blurred vision
- crossed eyes
- difficulty speaking,thinking,sleeping
- dizziness
- vomiting
- diarrhea
- constipation
- heartburn
- nervousness
- dry mouth
- back or joint pain
- swelling, itching, or irritation of the vagina
If you experience any of the
following symptoms, tell
your doctor immediately:
- chest pain
- seizures that happen more often
- depression
- swelling of the feet, hands, ower legs or ankles
What special precautions should I follow?
Before taking Generic Lamictal (Lamitor),
- tell your doctor if you are taking female hormonal medications such as
hormonal contraceptives like :patches, birth control pills, rings, injections
, or hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
- If you are taking a female hormonal medication,
tell your doctor if you have a bleeding between expected menstrual periods.
- tell your doctor if you have or have ever had heart, kidney, or liver
disease or a blood disorder.
- tell your doctor if you are pregnant,if you plan to become pregnant, or if you are
breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking Generic Lamictal (Lamitor), call your
doctor.
- tell your doctor if you are allergic to Generic Lamictal (Lamitor), or any
other medications.
- tell your doctor about all kind of medications you are
taking.
- you should know that this medication may make you drowsy. Do not drive a
car until you know how this medication affects you.
