Why is this medication prescribed?
It is used to prevent attacks of depression or mania, by
stabilising your chemistry. Intalith (Lithium) also
makes antidepressants work more effectively in some cases.
How should this medicine be used?
The number of tablets you need is based on your blood test results.
You should take the tablets twice a day after food. Take it
exactly as directed. Do not take more or less than prescribed by your doctor.
What side effects can this medication cause?
The side effects may include:
- nausea
- vomiting
- diarrhoea
- tiredness
- loss of appetite
- passing urine
- shaking hands
- increased thirst
What special precautions should I follow?
- Tell your doctor if you are allergic to Intalith (Lithium) or any
other drugs.
- Caution should be used when Intalith (Lithium) and
diuretics are used concomitantly because it increasing the risk of Intalith (Lithium) toxicity.
- Maintain a normal
diet, including salt, and an adequate fluid intake(2500-3000 ml.).
- There is a small risk of
developing an underactive thyroid gland while on Intalith (Lithium).
