Why is this medication prescribed?
Diavista (Generic pioglitazone) is used to treat type 2 diabetes in people whose diabetes cannot be
controlled by diet and exercise alone.It works by increasing your body's sensitivity to
insulin, a substance your body produces to help control blood sugar
levels. Diavista (Generic pioglitazone) is in a class of drugs
called thiazolidinediones.
How should this medicine be used?
Diavista (Generic pioglitazone) should be taken once a day with or without food.
Your physician will tell you which dosage you will require.
What side effects can this medication cause?
Diavista (Generic pioglitazone) side effects include: - fluid retention or swelling (edema), which may lead to heart failure.
- Do not take Diavista (Generic pioglitazone) if you have moderate to severe heart failure, or active liver
disease.
- Tell your doctor immediately if you experienc: swelling, shortness of breath, or
fast weight gain.
- When taking Diavista (Generic pioglitazone) with insulin or sulfonylureas,
you can be at risk for low blood glucose.
- Talk to your doctor immediately if
you experience stomach pain,
nausea, vomiting, tiredness, dark urine, anorexia, or yellowing of the skin.
- If you are of childbearing age, it could
increase your chance of becoming pregnant.

What special precautions should I follow?

Patients with moderate to severe heart failure must not takeDiavista (Generic pioglitazone).
- Do not take diavista (Generic pioglitazone) if you have : type 1 diabetes;
active liver disease or jaundice;
allergic to Diavista (Generic pioglitazone) or any
of its ingredients.
- Do not take diavista (Generic pioglitazone) if you are pregnant
or breast-feeding.
