Why is this medication prescribed?
Generic Zyban / Wellbutrin (Bupropion) is used to help people stop smoking.
How should this medicine be used?
is usually taken twice a day, with doses at least 8 hours apart. and may be taken with or without food. Follow the directions on
your prescription label and ask your doctor to explain any part
you do not understand.
What side effects can this medication cause?
Bupropion (Generic Zyban) may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of
these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
- restlessness
- anxiety
- dry mouth
- excessive sweating
- sleeping difficulties
- dizziness
- drowsiness
- headache
- upset stomach
- vomiting
- over excitement
- tremor
- weight loss
- constipation
What special precautions should I follow?
Before taking bupropion,
- tell your doctor if you are allergic to bupropion (Generic Zyban) or any
other medications.
- do not take bupropion (Generic Zyban) if you are taking monoamine oxidase (MAO)
inhibitors, or
have taken them within the past 14 days.
- tell your doctor about all the
medications you are taking. Be sure to mention any of the following: amantadine
; beta blockers; cyclophosphamide; diet pills; medications for irregular heartbeat; medications for seizures
other antidepressants.
- tell your doctor if you have liver disease, asthma, thyroid disease, kidney disease, diabetes, stomach problems, heart disease or high blood pressure.
- tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are
breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking bupropion, call your
doctorv immediately.
- you should know that bupropion may make you drowsy. Do not drive a car
until you know how bupropion affects you.
- minimize or avoid drinking alcoholic beverages while you are taking
bupropion.
