Why is this medication prescribed?
Generic Spiriva is A once-daily maintenance therapy for the
bronchospasm caused by Chronic
Obstructive Pulmonary Disease -COPD.
COPD also includes breathing
problems like chronic bronchitis : swelling of the airways or tubes leading to
the lungs and emphysema (damage to the air sacs in the lungs).
This medicine opens up narrowed breathing passages.
How should this medicine be used?
Generic Spiriva is taken once a day.
Open the blister and the Handihaler device. Insert the
capsule and Press the Handihaler button and then Inhale (breath in) the
medication.
What side effects can this medication cause?
The most
common side-effects:
- dry mouth (resolved during the treatment)
- chest pain
- urinary difficulty
- fast or irregular heartbeat
- sweating nausea
- shortness of breath
- back or jaw pain
What special precautions should I follow?
Generic Spiriva should be used only as directed by
your doctor.
Be careful not to allow powder from the capsules to get into your eyes. If the powder does get into your eye it can cause blurring of vision and pupil dilation.
If symptoms of eye problems occur, contact your doctor immediately.
Generic Spiriva isn't indicated for
the initial treatment of acute bronchospasm attacks.
Before using Generic Spiriva,
- tell your doctor if you Are
pregnant or plane to become pregnant or if you are breast-feeding
- tell your doctor if you are allergic to any medications.
- tell your doctor if you have medical problems such as difficulty
urinating or an enlarged prostate
