Why is this medication prescribed?
Suminat (Generic Imitrex) is used to relieve migraine headache symptoms.
Suminat (Generic Imitrex) works by thinning blood vessels
and activating serotonin receptors in the brain. It is believed that
serotonin levels drop down in people having a migraine
attack.
How should this medicine be used?
Mostly, one tablet
will be taken for the treatment of migraine symptoms.
However, you
can take a second tablet (wait at least 2 hours after the first tablet) if the symptoms of the migraine persist.
. Do not take more than 200mg of Suminat (Generic Imitrex) in a 24 hour period.
Suminat (Generic Imitrex) works best when taking it at the
first signs of the migraine headache.
What side effects can this medication cause?
The side effects include:
- nausea
- drowsiness
- tingling sensations
- feeling dizzy
If you experience any of the
following symptoms you should stop
taking the tablets and tell your doctor:
- difficulty breathing
- swollen mouth, lips, or tongue
- jaw or neck pain
- irregular heartbeat
- chest pain
- vision problems
What special precautions should I follow?
- Do not take Suminat (Generic Imitrex) within 2 weeks of
using an MAO Inhibitor medication such as Nardil, Parnate or
Marplan.
- Suminat (Generic Imitrex) can cause drowsiness, so
you are advised to take extreme care before you driving a car or operating vehicles.
- Taking Suminat (Generic Imitrex) with other medications, including homeopathic
medications, can be dangerous.
- Tell you doctor if you are currently taking any other
medications, in particular escitalopram, citalopram, fluoxetine,
sertraline, paroxetine or fluvoxamine as these medications interact
with the effectiveness of Suminat (Generic Imitrex).
- Do not use Suminat (Generic Imitrex) with any other migraine headache
medication.
- Do not use a MAO Inhibitor within 2 weeks of using
Suminat (Generic Imitrex).
