Why is this medication prescribed? Telfast (Allegra) is used for relieving hay fever and allergy
symptoms, including runny nose; sneezing; and tearing eyes. It is
also used for treating symptoms of hives, including itching and rash. Telfast (Allegra)
is in a class of medications called antihistamines. It works by blocking
histamine, a substance in the body which causes allergic symptoms. Telfast (Allegra)
may cause less drowsiness than other antihistamines.
How should this medicine be used? Telfast (Allegra) may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. Your doctor
will tell you the correct dosage for your condition.
What side effects can this medication cause? Side effects that may occur
while taking Telfast (Allegra) include:
- sinusitis
- dizziness
- drowsiness
- fever
- coughing
- upper respiratory tract
infection
- back pain
- indigestion
- painful menstruation.
If these side-effects continue
you sould tell your doctor.
What special precautions should I follow? Inform your doctor of all the medications that you are taking.
Don't take antacids (Maalox, Mylanta) containing aluminum and magnesium within 2 hours of taking Telfast (Allegra).
tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or if you are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking fexofenadine (Allegra), call your doctor immediately.
